Bi-level cocktail table attributed to Arturo Pani, designer to the affluent of Mexico City from the mid-1930s through the 1970s. Pani’s first major project in 1936 was the creation of furnishings and interiors for the iconic modernist Hotel Reforma with the architecture by his brother Mario and murals by Diego Rivera. The table is formed of two thick layers of glass, the bottom silver-mirrored to reflect the deeply-carved sunburst in the top layer. These are supported by legs which appear to be of one metal, all gilded, but the ball feet and finials are gilded bronze, whereas the thick flared stems are gilded iron.
